Today we will be giving a special recognition to all the Attendants of Peekskill VAC. For most here at PCVAC, we started out as an Attendant and grew from there. We currently have 39 Volunteers who are rostered as Attendants and that number continues to grow each month!
Attendants play an important support role for our crews while operating on calls. Their jobs range from getting equipment from the ambulance, such as stair chair, scoop, reeves, or other devices. This ensures our EMT does not have to stop patient care to retrieve items and that they receive best possible care. They also assist our EMTs and Drivers with lifting and moving patients, to even performing CPR on patients.
When it comes to training, by pairing up with our more experienced volunteers, attendants learn how to properly move and lift patients using a stair chair, scoop, reeves and stretcher, along with learning how to assist EMTs with care. They are required to complete and be certified in BLS CPR, and Bloodborne Pathogens. Often times we can find our attendants in the ambulance with our EMTs performing rig checks, or learning how to use equipment.
We would like to thank all of our Attendants for the amazing job they do each and every day!
If you are looking to gain some medical knowledge or experience in the 911 field without going to EMT school right out the gate, what better way to start then becoming an attendant at PCVAC. You will be able to ride on our ambulances, responding to calls and assisting our EMTs/Drivers. By doing this you can get a feel for the medical field and then choose whether or not you would want to continue with your medical career to become an EMT! If you would like to join our family you can easily fill out an application on our website at www.pcvac.org
